Can green tea burn fat?

Green Tea may also burn calories by accelerating the metabolism. Health studies have shown that even black tea and oolong tea (neither of which contain the flavinoids or extra antioxidants that green tea has) can slightly accelerate the metabolism by up to 3% (67 calories per day). Green tea and weight loss have long been associated for this reason, however the amount of calories that green tea will cause to burn depends on the size of the individual. The larger the weight of the person drinking green tea the more effect it will have. Drinking green tea for weight loss should not be considered to be a replacement for other factors that also increase metabolic rate, calorie burn, fat burn and weight loss (Eg. physical exercise and combining foods).

 

Green Tea Nutrition: Cancer

Green tea contains high amounts of a phytochemical called EGCG, proven in laboratory studies to be a powerful antioxidant.
EGCG can also increase the production of enzymes that protect you from substances that are known to cause cancer and decrease the levels of a particular substances known to promote cancer and cancer cell self-destruction.

Studies have shown drinking around 4 cups of green tea every day can lower the risk of colon cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer and other cancers.

Studies show that it may not actually reduce the deaths of people with certain cancers and is therefore best considered as a simply way to prevent and fight the effects of cancer. It has been shown to reduce deaths due to cardiovascular disease.

Green Tea Nutrition: Antioxidants

Plant antioxidants (like those in green tea) stabilize 'free radicals' and protect the DNA from damage that may allow cancer to develop.

These antioxidants also protect the blood vessels from damage that could lead to blockages and strokes.

People that drink green tea definitely have higher levels of antioxidants in there blood.

Thanks to these antioxidants heavy smokers can reduce the DNA damage caused by their habit.

Proving the Health and Nutrition Benefits of Green Tea

Studies usually take place on communities where drinking green tea is part of the daily culture and their environment has less risk producing conditions like pollution.

These green tea drinkers may also have some other healthy habits like diet and eating soy products. Other healthy habits may mask tests carried out on the benefits of drinking green tea.

Green tea may also have more benefits for some people more than others.

Drinking 3-4 cups of green tea is reasonably easy habit to replace your current drinking habits with and will certainly bring a variety of health benefits compared to the intake of Coffee, Soda and Sugar Drinks.
